I took a leap of faith and converted my blog from the old format to the new customized one. All in all, it was pretty painless.
It has a few limitations (doesn't like tables), but the ability to drag, drop and add page elements makes up for it. It publishes way faster, and the control panel has quite a bit more functionality.

The problem comes in when you've done a shed load of customisations on your old blog and can't work out how to transfer them over to the new html template format!
I agree. I could not get my cost tracking table to transfer over to the web-parts format - it just froze up with that much html code. I had to change to a simple list.
I got the majority of it over, I will finish up this weekend. Its probably going to be a 3 to 4 hour job in total.
